About
THE LAYERED LIFE

Founded by Rachel Reider and Kate Maloney, The Layered Life brings designers together through meaningful experiences, honest conversations, and opportunities for deeper connection within the industry.

The Layered Life was born from a simple idea:

Designers need space beyond projects, deadlines, and the day-to-day demands of running a business.

Not another conference.
Not traditional networking.

A place to gather thoughtfully, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections.

MEET the FOUNDERS

With years of experience building respected design firms, leading teams, and navigating the evolving landscape of entrepreneurship, Rachel Reider and Kate Maloney bring distinct perspectives—and a shared appreciation for thoughtful design, meaningful connection, and creating experiences with intention.

RACHEL REIDER

FOUNDER REIDER + CO

Rachel Reider is the founder and creative lead of Boston-based Reider + Co, bringing two decades of experience building a respected, enduring interior design firm. Her portfolio spans both luxury residential and hospitality interiors, including 22 boutique hotels and expansive family homes across New England.

Known for creating spaces that feel personal, layered, and livable, — environments that balance refined aesthetics with the realities of everyday life.  Rachel brings a rare blend of creative vision, business insight, and leadership to every project. Her work has been recognized by Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Travel + Leisure, House Beautiful, Boston Magazine, and more.

At the core of Rachel’s work is a belief that thoughtful design and business go hand in hand. As both a creative leader and mother of two, she has built Reider + Co with longevity, sustainability, and authentic client relationships at its foundation. Her approach to business reflects the same intentionality she brings to interiors: grounded, adaptable, and designed to evolve over time.

KATE MALONEY ALBIANI

FOUNDER KATE MALONEY INTERIOR DESIGN

Kate Maloney Albiani is the founder and principal of Kate Maloney Interior Design, a Boston based studio known for creating playfully collected homes that balance beauty, comfort, and intention. With over 20 years of experience in the interior design industry, Kate has built a firm rooted in collaboration, trust, and thoughtful design.

Her work focuses on residential interiors for families who value spaces that feel personal, layered, and deeply livable. Blending old and new, color and restraint, Kate creates homes that are elevated yet effortless. Her projects have been featured in New England Home, Boston Magazine, Modern Luxury Interiors, and other leading design publications.

As a mother of three, Kate brings a grounded understanding of how design, business, and family life intersect. She is deeply invested in building a studio and career that support both creative ambition and real life. At this retreat, Kate shares practical insight on leadership, team building, and client relationships, offering designers an honest, generous framework for building businesses that feel aligned, sustainable, and built to last.

The EXPERIENCE

Through Their Eyes

“TLL was nothing short of perfection. I loved every moment. Every speaker, every session and every conversation had a direct impact on how I think about my business. And I now feel like I have 25 new friends to whom I can turn to with questions, commiserate and laugh with. I am so grateful to Kate and Rachel that they were willing to share their time, teams, knowledge and energy putting together this event.”

- Kim Tosi, Gather Home Design

“Carving time away from my family is hard and MUST be worth it. This was absolutely worth it. The entire experience was so well planned and executed, from start to finish,  impossible to believe it was a first time event. I walked away with valuable knowledge and 25 new friends within the industry. I can't say I've ever had that experience before.”

- Lani Zervas, Noelani Zervas Interiors

“The three days I spent on The Layered Life Retreat literally altered the trajectory of my design business, both personally and professionally. It was like a vitamin shot to the system, and a warm, affirming hug, all at the same time.”

- Deb Berger, Maven Interior Design

“I had a feeling The Layered Life would be something truly special and to not let the opportunity pass.  It exceeded every expectation. Over the course of three days, I not only built meaningful connections, but also found a renewed sense of inspiration and clarity in my business. I left feeling encouraged, grounded, and confident that I’m on the right path.”

- Julie Salmon, J. Salmon Design

“In a world often known for silo’s and competition, Kate and Rachel brought together a carefully curated group of professionals, from all stages of their careers, to listen, learn and equally share their experiences. I came away from TLL with solid ideas of how to boost my business, but more importantly a new community of like minded professional women willing to support one another. All boats truly do rise.”

- Becky Tellefson, Bryant Park Designs

“Being an interior design firm principal can feel really overwhelming and isolating sometimes.  TLL was the perfect mix of concrete business advice, relationship-building and wellness - all of the things I needed most.  I came away from the experience feeling empowered and supported, and really excited for what's next in my business.”

- Stephanie Freeman, Stephanie Freeman Design

“Attending a retreat can always feel a little intimidating, it's the unknown, but the ladies of TLL made every step of the way feel inviting and safe. Whatever the vetting process was for attendees was perfection. Every conversation was meaningful, every presentation was timely and invaluable. This experience will stay with me always.“

- Lindsey Bouley, Lindsey Dana Interiors

“I enjoyed this really transformative experience at the Layered Life Retreat - I walked away with new industry friends and so much knowledge to help grow my life and business in a way that feels right to me. I felt a sense of community that is so important to me as a creative business owner.”
